Creating impactful posters is essential for conferences, presentations, and academic showcases. At Und Print, we understand the importance of high-quality poster printing. To ensure your poster printing experience is seamless and your final product is outstanding, here are key tips to guide you through the process.
Planning Ahead for Your Poster Print
To begin, it’s crucial to plan ahead. We recommend allowing at least three business days for your poster to be printed. During peak times, such as leading up to large poster sessions or conferences, we may require additional lead time. Submitting your print request early ensures we can meet your deadline and deliver a professionally printed poster ready for your event.
Understanding Poster Size Requirements at UND
Poster size is a critical factor, and it’s important to note that there isn’t a universal “normal” poster size. Each event or conference dictates its own specific size requirements. Always double-check the size guidelines provided by the event you are attending before designing your poster. For printing at UND Print, please be aware that our paper roll width is 42 inches. Therefore, one dimension of your poster (either width or height) must be 42 inches or less to accommodate our printing capabilities. If you are designing your poster in PowerPoint, the software has a slide size limitation of 56 inches, which provides ample space for designing within our print parameters.
Choosing the Right Print Type for Your Poster at UND
UND Print offers two distinct types of high-quality poster prints, both utilizing fade-resistant, pigment-based inks to ensure vibrant and lasting results:
1. Archival Polypropylene Prints
For posters intended for long-term use or display, our archival polypropylene option is an excellent choice. This acid-free material offers several benefits. Being acid-free, it protects the integrity of the inks over time, contributing to the longevity of your print and preventing discoloration. Polypropylene is also tear-resistant, adding to the durability of your poster, especially during transport and handling at events. Furthermore, this material often results in a superior color range, enhancing the visual impact of your poster. Please note that archival polypropylene prints are not recyclable.
2. Regular Paper Prints
Our regular paper option is a heavy-weight paper stock, ideal for posters designed for single or limited use. This option is perfectly suited for presentations or events where the poster will be displayed for a shorter duration. Choosing regular paper is also the more environmentally conscious option as it is a recyclable material, aligning with sustainable practices.
Preparing and Submitting Your Poster File to UND Print
To ensure a smooth printing process, please save your poster file as a PDF. This format helps us accurately determine the correct print material and maintain the formatting of your poster design. When saving your file, please use the following naming convention:
first.last_name.poster/eventinfo.Regular (or) Poly.pptx
Example: If your name is Laura Stutrud and you are printing a poster for the “BuildPoster” event at the “HowConference” and you want a polypropylene print, your file name should be: laura.stutrud_BuildPoster_HowConference.poly.pptx
Submit your poster file through one of the following methods:
- Email: Send your poster file to our dedicated distribution list, which reaches John Lee and Laura Stutrud, at [email protected].
- SMHS DropBox: Alternatively, you can upload your poster using the SMHS DropBox. Please note that using the DropBox requires a UND account login.
Picking Up Your Printed Poster at UND
Once your poster is printed, you can conveniently pick it up at the Library & Information Resources desk. This desk is located on the second floor of the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences building, making it easily accessible on campus.
