Troubleshooting Random Email Delivery Failures in Qlik NPrinting: A Send n Print Challenge

We’re encountering a perplexing issue with Qlik NPrinting where automated report tasks are sporadically failing to email reports to all intended recipients. This problem is inconsistent, with reports sometimes being sent to a user one day but not the next, and affecting different users at random times. Despite several troubleshooting attempts, the issue persists, and we are seeking assistance to resolve this erratic behavior in our report distribution system.

We have already undertaken a series of steps to diagnose and fix this issue, but the random email delivery failures continue to occur. Here’s a summary of the troubleshooting measures we’ve implemented:

  1. User Re-addition: We removed and re-added users from the report tasks that were generating error messages, hoping to refresh user assignments and resolve any potential glitches in user associations. The error message encountered is shown below, pointing to a permission problem.

  2. Connection Verification: We verified and reloaded all data connections linked to the affected reports and report tasks. This step was taken to ensure the data sources were correctly accessible and that there were no issues preventing report generation due to connection problems.

  3. Service Restart: Following best practices for Qlik NPrinting, we stopped and restarted the NPrinting services in the recommended order. This was done to refresh the system processes and resolve any potential service-level issues that might be causing the intermittent failures.

  4. Server Restart: As a more comprehensive measure, we restarted the entire server hosting Qlik NPrinting. This action was intended to eliminate any underlying system-level problems that could be contributing to the inconsistent report delivery.

  5. Log Analysis: Examination of the nprinting_scheduler logs revealed an error message indicating a permission problem: “The user [user_id] listed in task [task_id] does not have permission to view one or more reports attached to the task. No email will be sent.” This message suggests a user permissions issue, despite users seemingly having the necessary access rights.

  6. User Role Verification: We meticulously checked the user permissions within Qlik NPrinting (Admin > Users > Roles). As shown in the screenshot below, users appear to possess the required permissions for accessing and receiving the reports.

  7. Security Role Examination: Further investigation involved reviewing the security roles associated with the user role (Admin > Security Roles > User). The security role configurations, as depicted below, also appear to be correctly set up, granting users the necessary access and distribution rights.

Despite these extensive troubleshooting efforts, the random email delivery problem persists. We are seeking expert assistance to understand why these intermittent failures are occurring and how to ensure reliable “Send N Print” functionality for all our Qlik NPrinting report distributions. If anyone has encountered similar issues or has insights into resolving this, your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
