Troubleshooting Your Canon Printer for Seamless Print Jobs

Like many, I rely on my Canon printer for various Print Jobs, from important documents to everyday printing needs. Recently, I encountered a frustrating issue with my Canon PIXMA MG7720 connected to my 2017 27″ 5K iMac running Mojave 10.14.3. I needed to print a crucial document for a meeting, but my printer decided to throw a wrench in my plans. Initially, my iMac insisted that the printer wasn’t even connected to my network, bringing my urgent print job to a standstill.

After some troubleshooting, switching between Wi-Fi and ethernet connections, I finally established a Wi-Fi connection. However, my troubles were far from over. Each attempt to print the document resulted in an error message about not being able to open the “PPD” file, or Postscript Printer Description file. This PPD file issue was preventing me from completing even the simplest print job.

Frustrated but determined, I started thinking about possible solutions. Despite having the Apple Canon Printer Drivers 3.4 installed from a few months prior, I suspected that outdated drivers might be the culprit, especially given the common printing problems reported with Mojave. This led me to the Canon support website, hoping to find updated drivers that could resolve my print job woes.

My hunch paid off. Canon’s website offered a set of updated package installers, including a newer printer driver, a scanner driver, and updated versions of the Canon Utilities package. I proceeded to download all seven files and installed them one by one, before restarting my iMac. This reboot was the crucial step before attempting my print job again.

The moment of truth arrived when I reopened my document in Preview and selected “Print” from the “File” menu. To my immense relief, the document printed perfectly without any errors! The updated drivers had successfully resolved both the connectivity issue and the PPD file problem, allowing me to complete my important print job.

While my experience is specific to my Canon PIXMA MG7720 and iMac setup, updating your printer drivers is a common and often effective solution for various printer issues. If you are experiencing similar problems with your Canon printer and struggling to get your print jobs done, I highly recommend visiting the official Canon support website. Search for the latest printer and scanner drivers for your specific printer model and operating system, along with any available updates for the Canon Utilities package.

Downloading and installing these updates might just be the key to resolving your printer problems and ensuring smooth, hassle-free print jobs in the future. It certainly worked for me and got me back on track just in time for my meeting. Give it a try – it could save you a lot of frustration and get your printer working perfectly again.
