Mobile Print IU: Your Guide to Printing on the Go at Indiana University

Printing at Indiana University is designed to be straightforward and accessible, whether you’re using university workstations or your own mobile devices. This guide will walk you through the various printing options available to ensure you can easily print your documents whenever you need to.

Printing from Public Workstations on Campus

For quick and convenient printing while on campus, IU provides public workstations equipped with printers in locations like the University Library. Here’s how to print from these computers:

  1. Select Your Print Queue: When you print from a public workstation, you’ll see a standard printer window pop up. This window offers you a choice of print queues:
    • Black and white (default): Ideal for most documents, this is the standard and most economical option. Black and white printing costs $0.04 per side.
    • Color: Choose this queue for documents requiring color prints. Color printing is available at $0.25 per side.
  2. Send Your Job to Print: After selecting your queue and clicking “OK,” your print job is sent to the system.
  3. Visit a Print Release Station: Proceed to any print release station located near the printers.
  4. Swipe Your CrimsonCard: Swipe your CrimsonCard at the release station to access your print jobs.
  5. Print or Cancel: A screen will display your pending print jobs. You can then choose to print them or cancel if they are no longer needed. Remember, print jobs remain in the system for 24 hours. If not printed or canceled, they will be automatically deleted. The screen clearly shows the number of pages for each job before you print.

Mobile Printing at IU: Print from Your Own Devices

IU also supports printing from your personal devices, offering flexibility and convenience. The primary method for mobile printing is using IU Print from Anywhere, a web-based service. This allows you to upload and print documents from your laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

To use mobile printing at IU:

  1. Access IU Print from Anywhere: Open a web browser on your device and navigate to the IU Print from Anywhere portal (search “IU Print from Anywhere” on IU websites for the direct link).
  2. Log in with your IU Credentials: Use your IU username and passphrase to log in to the service.
  3. Upload Your Document: Follow the on-screen instructions to upload the document you wish to print. You will typically be able to select print options such as black and white or color, and number of copies.
  4. Choose a Printer Location: Select your desired printer location from the available options on campus. University Library printers are a common choice.
  5. Release Your Print Job: Once you’ve sent your job through IU Print from Anywhere, go to your chosen printer location. At a release station, swipe your CrimsonCard or log in with your IU username and passphrase to release and collect your prints.

This mobile print solution ensures you can print documents from virtually anywhere, making it a valuable tool for students and faculty on the go.

Printing Without a CrimsonCard

If you don’t have your CrimsonCard, you can still release your print jobs at RICOH printers located on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of the University Library. Simply approach a RICOH printer, and instead of swiping a card, log in directly using your IU username and passphrase to access and print your documents.

Scanning Services

In addition to printing, the University Library offers free scanning services. Publicly available scanners are located on the 2nd and 4th floors. Scanning documents or pictures is free of charge. If you are a guest user without IU affiliation, you might need to get a Guest Computer Account from the 2nd Floor Information/Service Desk to use these services. More information for guest users can be found on the IU Libraries website.

The University Library also provides specialized scanning equipment:

  • Scanpro Microform Scanner: For more advanced scanning needs, instructions for using the microform scanner are available online.
  • Digitization Services: The Center for Digital Scholarship offers digitization services for scholarly projects. For inquiries about these services, contact them via email at [email protected] or by phone at (317) 274-8230.

By utilizing these comprehensive printing and scanning services, Indiana University ensures that all students, faculty, and guests have the resources they need for academic and research success. Whether you need to print from a workstation, your mobile device, or scan important documents, IU Libraries are equipped to support you.
