Printers within Colgate University Libraries serve as a vital resource, primarily intended to facilitate academic research and coursework. Recognizing that these resources are shared among a large community, it’s important to utilize them responsibly. For substantial duplication needs or extensive print jobs exceeding 50 double-sided sheets, Colgate’s Document and Mail Services, located in the O’Connor Campus Center (lower level), is readily available. They can be contacted at 228-7487 or via email at [email protected] for efficient handling of larger printing tasks.
The Library reserves the right to redirect print jobs to Document and Mail Services if they are deemed more suitable for their facilities and services. This ensures optimal resource allocation and service for all users of Colgate Printing services.
Understanding Color Printing Options
For Colgate printing in color, students and faculty have access to limited color printing services specifically for academic purposes. These services are available at the Case Library Borrowing Services Desk and the Cooley Library Circulation Desk. To release your color print job, please consult with a library staff member who will assist you.
Users who require extensive color printing, need to print non-academic materials in color, or require multiple color copies, including non-Colgate patrons, should directly contact Document Services in the O’Connor Campus Center. Document Services is equipped to handle a broader range of printing needs beyond the scope of the library’s Colgate printing facilities.
Additionally, a color copier is conveniently located on Level 3 of Case-Geyer Library. This copier allows users to reproduce existing printed materials in color at a cost of $1.00 per page.
Guidelines for Acceptable and Unacceptable Printing Uses
Supported Uses for Colgate Students and Faculty:
- Printing is supported when it aligns with copyright regulations.
- Color printing is justified when color is essential for understanding the content of academic materials.
- Printed documents must be directly related to academic coursework or research.
Unsupported Uses for All Patrons (including Colgate Community and Visitors):
- Printing duplicate copies of any document.
- Printing documents unrelated to academic work. This includes, but is not limited to, event flyers, regardless of University sponsorship.
- Printing where color does not significantly contribute to the understanding of the content, even if the document is for academic purposes.
- Printing lengthy documents exceeding 50 single-sided sheets, even if color is significant and the document is for academic work.
