I purchased this Canon printer a few months back, and the initial setup process was surprisingly straightforward. Getting it up and running was a breeze, and for a while, I was genuinely pleased with my purchase. Printing documents and everyday items was a smooth experience. However, my experience took a slight turn when I decided to delve into photo printing using the rear paper tray instead of the standard front cassette.
The photo print itself, intended as a casual snapshot of my granddaughter, was acceptable for my needs. The issue arose when I struggled to get the photo size right, leading to an unwanted cropping of her feet. At the time, I chalked it up to my inexperience and assumed I simply needed to learn more about the printer’s settings. Fast forward to today, and I encountered a more persistent problem. After using the rear tray, I spent a frustrating half hour trying to revert to printing from the front tray. The printer simply refused to recognize that there was paper loaded in the front tray, despite being set to automatic tray selection.
I went through the usual troubleshooting steps – powering the printer off and on, consulting the user manuals, and attempting to cancel and restart the print job. I even spent a considerable amount of time scouring the manuals and online resources for a solution, all to no avail. In a moment of frustration, I tried initiating the print command from my iPad in a different location. To my surprise, it finally printed, albeit not in double-sided mode as I had intended. Now, it seems to be printing normally again from the front tray.
Despite this paper tray hiccup, which caused considerable irritation and was not addressed in the manuals, I would still consider buying this Canon printer again. The primary reason for this is the ability to use large bottles of ink and refill the ink tanks myself. This feature is a significant money-saver and reduces the frustration of constantly replacing expensive ink cartridges. Overall, despite these two specific issues (the photo size cropping and the paper tray switching problem), I have been genuinely satisfied with this printer. Compared to other printers I’ve owned, this Canon printer is superior. It operates reliably around 98% of the time, and the print quality is more than adequate for my home business and general printing needs.
