I purchased a Canon Pixma printer a few months back, and initially, the setup process was straightforward, and I was quite pleased with its ease of use. My initial impressions were definitely positive.
However, I recently encountered a couple of issues that caused some frustration. The first arose when I attempted to print a photograph using the rear tray instead of the standard front cassette. While the print quality was acceptable for a casual photo of my granddaughter, I struggled to get the sizing right, and unfortunately, it cropped off her feet in an undesirable way. I chalked this up to my inexperience and assumed I needed to learn more about the printer’s settings.
The more significant problem occurred when I tried to switch back to printing from the front tray. The printer simply refused to recognize that there was paper loaded in the tray, despite being set to automatic tray selection. I spent a frustrating half hour troubleshooting this issue. I cycled the power, consulted the manuals, canceled and restarted print jobs, and even scoured the manuals and online resources for solutions, all to no avail. In desperation, I resorted to sending the print command from my iPad in a different location, and surprisingly, it finally printed. However, it printed single-sided, even though I had selected double-sided printing.
While the printer seems to be working normally again now, the experience was irritating. The manuals provided no guidance on switching between trays or clarified which print commands were compatible with specific trays.
Despite these hiccups, I would still consider buying this Canon Pixma printer again. The primary reason for this is the availability of large, refillable ink bottles, which significantly reduces ink costs and the hassle of frequent cartridge replacements. Compared to other printers I’ve owned, this model is superior and performs well the vast majority of the time – I’d estimate 98% of the time it works flawlessly. The print quality is also more than adequate for my home business and general household printing needs. So, while not perfect, the Canon Pixma printer has proven to be a worthwhile investment overall.
