Understanding Your Canon Printer Warranty and InstantExchange Program

Owning a Canon printer brings convenience and quality to your printing needs. To ensure your investment is protected, it’s essential to understand the terms and conditions of the Canon U.S.A., Inc. Limited Warranty, especially concerning aspects that ensure smooth operation, like having the correct Printer Drivers Canon recommends. This document outlines the specifics of your warranty and the InstantExchange Program available in the United States.

Canon U.S.A., Inc. Limited Warranty Explained

Canon U.S.A., Inc. (“Canon USA”) provides this limited warranty for new or refurbished Canon-brand products (“Product”) purchased and used exclusively within the United States. This warranty safeguards your Product against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service.

Warranty Coverage Period:

  • New Products: One (1) year from the original purchase date when delivered in new condition and original packaging.
  • Refurbished Products: One (1) year from the original purchase date.

Should your Product require service and is proven defective upon inspection at a Canon USA repair facility or a Canon USA Authorized Service Facility (“ASF”), Canon USA will, at its discretion:

  • Repair the Product using new, remanufactured, repaired, or recycled parts.
  • Exchange the Product for a new unit.
  • Exchange the Product for a refurbished unit.

It’s important to note that any warranty repair or replacement does not extend the original warranty period. To avail of warranty service, you must present a dated proof of purchase, such as a copy of your dated sales receipt. This warranty specifically excludes accessories and consumables like paper and ink cartridges, which are provided without warranty or replacement.

Compatibility and Exclusions

This warranty is applicable only when the Product is used with compatible computers, peripherals, and software. Canon USA is not responsible for non-Canon brand items, except for compatible Canon brand peripherals covered under a separate warranty. Repairs for Canon brand peripherals are governed by the terms of their respective Separate Warranty. Non-Canon brand equipment and software distributed with the Product are sold “as is,” without any warranty from Canon USA, including implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Any warranty for these non-Canon items is provided by their respective manufacturers.

The limited warranty does not cover defects resulting from:

  1. Damage due to abuse, neglect, mishandling, improper packaging, alteration, accident, electrical fluctuations, misuse, failure to follow operating or maintenance instructions in the user manual, or unauthorized service. Physical damage like dropping, scratches, and abrasions are presumed to result from misuse.
  2. Damage caused by using non-Canon parts, media, software, or supplies, including non-Canon or refilled ink cartridges, leading to product damage or frequent service calls. Ensuring you use genuine Canon ink and supplies, and the correct printer drivers canon provides, can help prevent such issues.
  3. Products with defaced, altered, or removed serial numbers.

Understanding the warranty terms ensures users are aware of their coverage.

Software and Implied Warranties

Any system software or utility software provided with the Product is sold “as is” without warranty from Canon USA. Software warranties are detailed in the software manufacturer’s license agreement included with the software. Contact Canon USA immediately if you have not received this agreement.

Limitations on Liability:

No implied warranty, including merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, applies to the Product after the express limited warranty period. Canon USA is not liable for loss of revenues or profits, inconvenience, substitute equipment expenses, storage charges, data loss, or any special, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use, misuse, or inability to use the Product, regardless of legal theory. In no case shall recovery exceed the purchase price of the Product. You assume all risk and liability for loss, damage, or injury arising from the use, misuse, or inability to use the Product, unless caused directly by Canon USA’s negligence.

This warranty is exclusively for the original purchaser or gift recipient and represents your exclusive remedy.
