BYUI Print: Your Guide to Campus Printing at BYU-Idaho

Printing documents on campus at Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYUI) is a straightforward process thanks to the Byui Print system, also known as Pharos Print. This system allows you to conveniently upload and print documents from your personal computer, laptop, or mobile device at various print release stations across the campus. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about using BYUI Print, ensuring a smooth and efficient printing experience.

Whether you’re a student needing to print assignments or an employee handling university documents, understanding how to utilize BYUI Print is essential. This article provides a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to using BYUI Print effectively from different devices and managing your printing account.

Printing from a Laptop or Desktop Computer with BYUI Print

For those using a laptop or desktop, the Pharos Print web portal offers a seamless way to upload and manage your print jobs. Follow these steps to print your documents:

  1. Access the Pharos Print Center: Begin by navigating to the Pharos Print Center in your web browser. It’s a good idea to bookmark this page for quick access in the future.

  2. Log In: You will need to log in using your BYU-Idaho credentials.

    • Note for returning students/employees: If you previously linked your BYUI and Church accounts, use your BYUI credentials to log in.
    • Note for new students/employees: If you started after February 12th and did not create BYUI credentials, use your Church account credentials to log in.

  3. Upload Your Document: Once logged in, click the Upload button to begin the process of adding your document to the print queue.

  4. Configure Print Options: After selecting your document, you’ll see it listed. Check the box next to your document and click Print Options to customize your print job. You can adjust settings such as:

    • Color: Choose between black-and-white or color printing.
    • Sides: Select single-sided or double-sided (duplex) printing to save paper.
    • Pages per side: Print one or two pages per side of paper.
    • Copies: Specify the number of copies you need.

  5. Print at a Release Station: Your document is now uploaded to the BYUI print server. Proceed to any print release station on campus to release and print your document. Instructions on how to use the print release stations are provided below.

Mobile Printing with BYUI Print on iPhone or Android

For printing on the go, BYUI Print offers a mobile app for both iPhone and Android devices. Here’s how to set up and use mobile printing:

  1. Install the Pharos Print App: Download and install the Pharos Printer App from the App Store (for iOS) or Play Store (for Android).

  2. Open the App: Launch the Pharos Print App on your mobile device.

  3. Server and Port Configuration: When prompted, enter the server address as webprint.byui.edu and the port number as 443.

  4. Sign In: Log in using your BYU-Idaho username and password, just as you would on the web portal.

    • Note for returning students/employees: Use your BYUI credentials if you linked your accounts previously.
    • Note for new students/employees: Use your Church account credentials if you are a new user.

  5. Upload and Print: Tap Upload in the app, select the document you wish to print from your device’s files, and it will be sent to the BYUI print queue.

    Important Note: Mobile printing through the app does not currently support printing only specific pages from a multi-page document. You must print the entire document.

Using Print Release Stations on the BYUI Campus

Once you’ve sent your print job to the BYUI Print system, you can release and print your documents at any print release station located across campus. Here’s how to use these stations:

  1. Sign In at the Print Station: Locate a print release station and sign in. You can do this in two ways:

    • Manual Login: Press “Sign In” on the top left of the screen and enter your BYU-Idaho credentials.

    • I-Card Swipe: Swipe your I-Card through the card reader attached to the print station screen.

    • Note: Some stations may only offer I-Card login. Ensure you have your I-Card ready.

    • Login Credentials: Remember the login notes mentioned earlier regarding BYUI and Church account credentials based on your enrollment/employment start date.

    Important Update: Copy cards are no longer accepted. All users, including staff and faculty, must use their I-Card for printing and copying.

  2. Select Print Release: After logging in, the main screen will display several options. Choose Print Release to access your uploaded documents.

  3. Print Your Documents: On the Print Release page, you will see a list of your uploaded documents.

    • Print All: To print all documents, select Print All.
    • Selective Print: To print specific documents, select them individually and then click Print.
    • Cost and Balance: Your I-Card balance is shown at the top left, and the total cost of your print job is displayed at the bottom right of the screen.

  4. Charge to Department Account (If Applicable): If you are authorized to charge printing to a department account instead of your personal I-Card, select Account on the Print Release page.

    • Account Selection: This will take you to a page where you can choose to charge to your personal account or a department code. If your account is already linked to a department, you may see a list of available accounts directly.

  5. Verify Account (Optional): To confirm which account is being charged, select the speech bubble icon in the top right corner. This opens the Message Center, displaying the currently selected account code.
