After several months of using my Canon Pixma Printer, I wanted to share my experience, highlighting both the positives and the minor frustrations I’ve encountered. Setting up the printer initially was a breeze, and for the first few months, I was genuinely pleased with its performance for everyday printing tasks.
My first real challenge arose when I decided to print photos using the rear paper tray. While the print quality for a snapshot of my granddaughter was acceptable, I struggled to achieve the correct photo size. This resulted in unwanted cropping, unfortunately cutting off her feet in the picture. At the time, I chalked it up to user error, assuming I needed to delve deeper into the printer settings and learn more about photo printing.
However, a more significant issue emerged recently. After successfully printing photos from the rear tray, I attempted to revert to printing documents from the front cassette tray. To my surprise, the printer stubbornly refused to recognize that there was paper loaded in the front tray. Despite being set to automatic tray selection, it simply wouldn’t print. I went through the usual troubleshooting steps – turning the printer off and on again, consulting the user manuals, and attempting to cancel and resend the print job. I even spent a frustrating half hour scouring the manuals and online resources, but found no clear instructions on how to switch between paper trays or resolve this paper detection issue.
In a moment of slight desperation, I tried initiating the print command from my iPad in a different location. This somewhat inexplicably worked, and the document finally printed. However, it ignored my double-sided printing preference, printing single-sided instead. Since then, the printer has been working seemingly fine again. But this entire episode was incredibly irritating, and the lack of clear guidance in the manuals on tray switching and print command compatibility was disappointing.
Despite these paper tray and occasional software quirks, I would still consider purchasing this Canon Pixma printer again. The primary reason for this is the significant cost savings offered by refillable ink tanks. Being able to buy large bottles of ink and refill them myself drastically reduces ink expenses and the constant hassle of replacing cartridges. This feature alone is a major advantage over many other printers I’ve owned.
Overall, my experience with this Canon Pixma printer has been largely positive. While I’ve encountered a couple of frustrating issues, particularly with paper tray management, it performs reliably about 98% of the time. The print quality is more than sufficient for my home business and general household needs. The refillable ink system makes it a cost-effective choice in the long run, outweighing the occasional operational hiccups.
