Mastering Avery Design & Print Online: Your Step-by-Step Guide

Creating professional-looking labels, cards, and more has never been easier thanks to Avery Design & Print Online. This user-friendly platform empowers you to design and print custom projects right from your browser. Whether you’re crafting address labels for invitations, product labels for your small business, or personalized cards for special occasions, Avery Design & Print Online offers a wealth of features and templates to bring your vision to life. Let’s dive into how to use this powerful tool and unlock your creative potential.

Finding Your Avery Template

To begin a new project, your first step is to locate the perfect template. Avery simplifies this process significantly.

Searching by Product Number

Every Avery product comes with a unique product number, typically a 4 or 5 digit code, printed on the packaging. Navigate to avery.com/templates and you’ll see a prominent search bar in the center of the page. Simply type in your Avery product number here and click the magnifying glass icon or press “Enter”. This will take you directly to the templates compatible with your specific Avery product.

Starting Your Design

Once you’ve found your template page, look for the red Start Designing button and click it. If you’re a new user or haven’t signed in recently, you’ll be prompted to either sign in to your existing Avery account or create a free one using your email address and password. Having an account allows you to save your projects and access them from any device.

After logging in, you’ll arrive at Step #2 Choose Design. Here, you’ll discover a range of options: pre-designed templates to get you started quickly or blank templates for complete creative freedom. Browse through the designs and click on the one that best suits your project. A Choose Design – Preview window will pop up. Click Customize Design to proceed.

Note: If the Customize button isn’t visible, try zooming out your screen. Press “Ctrl -” on Windows or “Cmd -” on Apple to zoom out and reveal the button.

Now you’ve successfully reached Step # 3 Customize, where the real design work begins!

Customizing Your Design

The customization screen is where you personalize your project. You’ll see a single label displayed prominently, and on the right side, the Navigator provides a preview of the entire label sheet.

Adding Text to Your Avery Labels

To add text to your label, look to the left side of the screen and click on the T icon for text. Then, click on Add Text Box. This will insert a text box onto your label, ready for your message.

Formatting Your Text for Impact

To format the text you’ve added – whether it’s changing the font, adjusting the size, or altering alignment – first click inside the text box. Then, click and drag to highlight the default placeholder text, “Type your Text,” in blue.

With your text highlighted, the formatting options on the left side of the screen become active. Here, you can explore various fonts, sizes, colors, and text alignment options to make your text look exactly as you envision. For more detailed formatting instructions, Avery offers helpful articles like Change the Font Style, Size, and Text Colors.

Applying Changes to One Label or All

Avery Design & Print Online gives you flexibility in how you apply your designs across the sheet. If you need every label to display the same information, ensure Edit All is selected on the right side of the screen. This will replicate any changes you make on the single label to all labels on the sheet.

However, if you require different information on each label, such as for personalized name tags or address lists, you’ll want to use the Edit One function. For detailed instructions on using Edit One and Edit All, refer to Avery’s article on Edit One / Edit All.

For advanced features like creating a Mail Merge to import data from spreadsheets, Avery Design & Print Online has you covered. Follow the step-by-step guide in their article: Import Data Mail Merge.

Once you’re satisfied with your design, it’s time to print.

Previewing and Printing Your Labels

Click on Step #4 Preview & Print at the top of the screen. This will display a full-page preview of your project, showing exactly how it will look when printed.

On the right side, you’ll see two prominent buttons: Get PDF to Print (blue) and Let Us Print For You (green) to order professional printing through WePrint. For printing at home or in your office, click the blue Get PDF To Print button.

Saving Your Work

Before proceeding to print, remember to Save your project. You can save it directly to your online Avery account for easy access later, or download it to your computer for offline storage.

Printing Tips for Best Results

After clicking Get PDF To Print, the Printing Tips page will appear. Carefully review these instructions to ensure optimal printing results. These tips often include advice on printer settings and paper handling.

When using Google Chrome, clicking Open PDF will open a new browser tab (preview.pdf) displaying your project. From this preview, click the printer icon typically located in the top right corner to initiate the printing process.
